About

Namumba Foundation -

of Love for the People

Joyce Namumba is a fighter, a survivor and a mother of four. She grew up in Zambia, took a social health care education in Denmark and returned to Zambia, to contribute to and better the lifes of her people.

Her husband, Jan Naumann, is a fighter, a survivor and became a father of four through Joyce. He grew up in Germany, took a nursing degree in Denmark and went to Zambia, to contribute and better the lifes of the people.

Together they started the Namumba Foundation, which was registered as a Zambian NGO from the 1st of October 2015. It is their passion to share what they know with others, to encourage and empower the people to live responsible lifes.

One of the greatest challenges in Zambia, is not poverty, but the mentality of many people to blame the government or to wait for the government to make their lifes better. But how can this be? People need to be pro-active and take control of their own lifes, and take responsibility for their own actions and inactions. Zambia is a very rich land. Let everyone understand this, and let everyone start utilizing the wealth of the motherland.

Of Love for the People - our understanding and practise of the love for the people can be found in the Bible, in Pauls first letter to the Corinthians, chapter 13. These are the values we are promoting.

We would encourage you to read the whole chapter, but to make our point we quote verses 4 to the first part of verse 8 (NIV):

"Love is patient, love is kind.

It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth.

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails."

These are the personal key competances we want to see developed in ourselves, our volunteers, colleagues, employees and partners. Patience and kindness go a long way when dealing with a fellow human being.

Education is the key to development. Sharing knowledge is to empower the people. If a person does not know, that burning their plastic waste in their own orchard is releasing toxins in the air and soil, which they themselves take in through breathing and by eating their homegrown vegetables, that person will continue to do so. But when a person understands the dangers of such practice for themselves and for their children, a change can happen.

Part of our educational approach is what we like to call "true education". Knowledge, that is not applicable and put to a practical use, is not what we desire. Knowledge must be proven by practice, or else change will not happen. This is, why our educational programs have a clear emphasis on using our hearts and hands to show what our heads have learned. This is especially true for our farming and clinic projects.

We encourage conscious consumption principles, we, conscious consumers, try to see through the fog of advertising and think about what we do when buying products. What is the real purpose or value of a product? Are we promoting child labour or another form of human suffering in a far away country? Are we supporting a company that uses genetic modification or produces cosmetics using animal testing? Is the product worth the little pleasure we gain from it or just more trash? We can also look at the positives: did we buy something that is healthy, was it produced in an environmentally responsible way and is the company outstanding, ethical, and responsible? In short: We encourage you to buy local, organic, gmo-free, fair trade

It depicts an abstract view of a DNA string,

that at the same time can be seen as two persons holding hand and walking or dancing together, or as two persons moving forward to embrace each other.

And we chose red and green as part of the African colors. Green, as a symbol for the vast natural ressources, and red as a symbol for the blood, in which is the life of man. We think this logo shows in a way a lot about who we are and what we want to do as an organization. It includes the human DNA as sign of the universal needs we have as people,

at the same time showing that we also stand for a scientific approach in the medical and healthcare projects we raise.

It also implies two persons in a loving, respectful relation, which is the spirit by which we do business.

We need each other. Let's focus on the betterment of the situations we are dealing with daily.
